Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Team Lead of Employee Health & Ability this position is responsible and accountable to provide case management of all work-related injury claims and short term and long term disability claims in a continuously changing work environment. This position focuses on the employee’s medical management, treatment, and needs to facilitate a safe and timely return to work. This is done through effective communication of information, analysis of the employees abilities and restrictions relative to their job demands, negotiation of return to work plans and evaluation of the employees placement in the workforce.

Description:

Work collaboratively with the employee, management, human resources, benefit department, insurance providers, unions and Occupational Health and Safety team to effectively coordinate management of claims. Provide support to both employees and managers. Assist with development and implementation of programs and policies to address Ability. Management within Covenant Health. Plan and implement training and education to staff and management. Implement “stay at work” initiatives in cooperation with the insurance carrier as appropriate. Serve as primary ability management contact with WCB and other insurance providers. Review all medical aid and lost time employee Incident/Injury forms and follow-up on all lost time claims. Develop and maintain an atmosphere of trust and mutual support with employees and managers. Effectively manage claims within appropriate time lines, acting on return to work barriers. Facilitate return to work opportunities for injured/ill workers by consulting with insurance provider, health care providers, manager, union and human resources advisors. Evaluate employee progress and readiness to return to work. Identify and facilitate ergonomic modifications of the job as required. Facilitate or lead return to work meetings of all stakeholders. Develop written return to work plans and communicate these plans to all stakeholders. Monitor success of return to work plans through on-going communication with the employee, manager and Human Resources, making changes as required. Respond to internal and external inquiries. Update the Manager of Occupational Health on pertinent issues and concerns. Assists with resolution of employee and manager concerns. Refer employee to EFAP as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

Post secondary certification and diploma or degree in health care field required. Minimum 3-5 years experience in Disability Management with WCB or insurance carriers in a unionized environment. Knowledge of medical conditions, terminology and ergonomics required. Knowledge of short and long term disability policies and procedures; Human Rights Legislation and Duty to Accommodate.

Computer literacy in Word, Excel, etc. strong computer skills. Self motivated and self directed. Organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple assignments. Ability to work in an environment of constant change. Knowledge of WCB policy and legislation. Conflict resolution skills; ability to handle stressful situations. Problem solving and decision making skills.
