Covenant Health is seeking an Accountant – Foundations to join our team and support the important work of Covenant Foundation and six affiliate foundations. About the Role: Reporting to the Controller, Foundations, and guided by Covenant Health’s Mission and Values, you will manage complex accounting functions and ensure compliance with financial standards and legislation. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with foundation staff and contribute to projects that support charitable initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Prepare and interpret financial reports for multiple foundations. Ensure compliance with internal controls, GAAP, and legislative requirements. Review deposits and charitable tax receipts. Manage payroll duties and prepare monthly and year-end financial statements. Complete registered charity information returns and assist with external audits. Support special projects as needed. Qualifications: Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting. Experience with charitable or non-profit organizations is an asset. Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and provide indirect supervision.
Description:
Reporting to the Controller, Foundations and in keeping with Covenant Health’s Mission and Values, the Accountant – Foundations is responsible for performing complex and multidimensional duties related to the interpretation of financial and/or accounting reports for Covenant Foundation and six affiliate foundations (Foundation). This position works closely with the Foundation staff by providing indirect supervision. Ensures compliance with internal and external reporting and legislative requirements which include review of deposits and charitable tax receipts, payroll duties, preparing monthly and year-end financial statements, preparing registered charity information returns, and assisting with yearly external audit of financial statements. Ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and administrative requirements. May assist with other related special projects as needed. This position is non-unionized.

Minimum Required: Post-secondary university degree (Commerce/Business) with a major in Accounting. Accounting designation (CPA) preferred.
Additional Required Qualifications:Experience, Skills and Competencies: 2 - 3 years experience in an accounting setting required. Strong knowledge of charitable industry, including accounting standards, CRA metrics, Charitable Fundraising Act of Alberta requirements. Thorough working knowledge of computer software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). Willingness and ability to acquire additional software skills. Ability to handle inquiries and assignments with highest level of professionalism and confidentiality. Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills required. Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize required. Team-oriented approach to work, and able to respond and communicate with all levels of staff and volunteers. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications:Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge and payroll system experience. Experience in a charitable setting.
