Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Information and Privacy, the Information and Privacy Advisor ensure Covenant Health meets its commitment to safeguarding personal and health information. The advisor provides expert guidance, leadership and operational support in privacy compliance, risk management and information access. The advisor will lead investigations into potential or confirmed privacy breaches, coordinate responses with managers and HR, recommend notifications and prepare mandatory reports to ensure compliance with Health Information Act (HIA) and Health Information Regulation requirements. They will serve as a trusted internal advisor by developing resource materials and training sessions to promote awareness and compliance. The advisor will also support the team's development in emerging technologies, data innovation, advanced analytics and artificial intelligence. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented with a proactive approach to balance compliance obligations with practical solutions, fostering a culture of privacy and security across Covenant Health. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or diploma in information management, information technology, health information or a related discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Minimum three years of experience in privacy, information security, compliance or related roles. Demonstrated knowledge of Alberta's ATIA, POPA and HIA legislations.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercise sound judgment and be flexible in managing unpredictable situations. Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive information with discretion. Demonstrated ability to handle concerns and investigations while maintaining discretion, diplomacy and tact. Familiarity with privacy legislation and best practices, including the ability to interpret legislation to develop appropriate response plans. Demonstrated proficiency with standard Microsoft software applications.


Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of an Information Access & Privacy Certificate or similar training. Experience in health care or regulated environments.
