Your Opportunity:

Clinical Engineering at the Bonnyville Healthcare Centre has an exciting position for an experienced Biomedical Technologist to support various areas within this Covenant Health facility. We have a position available supporting many units across the hospital. This position is part of a highly specialized team of Biomedical Technologists. Specific training on a variety of medical devices from numerous vendors will be provided. Candidates must be willing to work overtime on occasion and participate in afterhours on call coverage. Travel to support other healthcare facilities may be required with an overnight stay.

Description:

The Biomedical Equipment Technologist II is responsible for the management of technology and support of clinically-applied devices. The technologist requires a comprehensive knowledge of clinical practices, procedures, and types of equipment, and must be well versed in details of anatomy and physiology. The technologist, working independently or as part of the clinical team, is responsible for customer support, performance assurance testing, maintenance and repair of complex medical, biomedical, and electronic devices or systems. These responsibilities must all be completed according to CSA, manufacturers, department, and accreditation standards. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Paramedical Professional/Technical Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of a diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology from an accredited institute of technology, with a minimum of two years¿ experience or equivalent in education and experience.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Certification or eligibility as CET or CBET is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a comprehensive knowledge of the operating and maintenance practices and procedures for most medical equipment and experience with current computer troubleshooting and networking knowledge. Training and Knowledge in Networking concepts (topology, switches, routers, VLANS), Wi-Fi, and systems security is an asset. Candidates must be meticulous and thorough and able to grasp complex technical and clinical concepts. Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to deal courteously with vendors, colleagues, hospital staff and equipment users in stressful situations. Candidates must have a valid Class 5 driver's license with a vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated a capability to work independently on medical equipment. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot components down to the individual electronic component level is preferred. Specialized factory level biomedical equipment training is an asset. Specific training on Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office products (databases and spreadsheets), and communication protocols is an asset.
