Your Opportunity:
This is your opportunity to join the dynamic health care team at Villa Caritas (VC), which is an acute care geriatric psychiatry facility that specializes in caring for seniors with complex mental health issues. This casual position will provide back-fill relief support to the Spiritual Care team at VC and includes on-call responsibilities with the team of chaplains at the Misericordia Community Hospital (MCH). Your professional practice of being highly relational, will continue to support collaboration between the patient, family and support system and the care team to be an integral part of Covenant Health's Geriatric Psychiatry Program. You will report to the Spiritual Care Manager, Acute (Urban & Rural).
Description:
As a professional, integrated member of the healthcare team, the Chaplain supports patients, families, and staff who are experiencing spiritual, existential and moral distress: loss of meaning and connection related to changes in health, ability, and life circumstances. Utilizing a holistic and relational approach, the Chaplain assesses the nature and extent of the client's concerns, develops a plan of care, and provides therapeutic interventions to promote and engage the client in their healing process. Chaplains provide patient centered care, focusing on the wellness needs and goals of the client. Chaplains use interventions informed by spirituality, religion, social sciences and counselling psychotherapeutic modalities. With an awareness of cultural traditions, Chaplains honor and promote diversity and inclusion, modeling respect and sensitivity. Chaplains initiate and engage in consultations and referrals with other clinical professionals and provide spiritual leadership across Covenant Health sites. This position is non-unionized.

Commencement of a Master's degree in Theology, Spirituality, Religion and/or related field of studies from an accredited college or university. Second Basic Level of SPE (CASC/ACSS) required. Membership or Associate Membership with the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care (CASC/ACSS).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Suitable knowledge required for working within an acute care setting, as well as primary patient populations: acute care, emergency, geriatrics, palliative, intensive care/critical care, surgery, psychiatry, medicine and women’s health. Demonstrated understanding and ability to work in a multifaith, multicultural and multidisciplinary setting. Commitment to personal and professional integration, as well as spiritual, psychological and emotional integration. Ability to engage in spiritual, philosophical and/or theological reflection. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Computer skills in Email, Outlook, Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word). Ability to learn computer software such as Connect Care. Ability to listen and be a grounded and emotionally regulated presence. Ability to be non-judgmental, maintain confidence, and affirm individual worth. Ability to cope with a high degree of psychological, emotional and spiritual stress.
Preferred Qualifications:
CASC/ACSS Certification as Spiritual Care Practitioner preferred. Three years of experience providing spiritual care in a healthcare setting.
