Your Opportunity:

This position reports to the Unit Manager or designate and works under the direction of nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Under the limited supervision of the Unit Manager, the Booking Clerk is responsible for: Booking and scheduling patients for PAC and other health appointments (virtual, phone, and in-person), assisting with unit records, notifying patients of operative times, checking patients in and out for their appointments, and supporting the unit as required. The role includes managing the flow of information and providing clerical support to staff and physicians and communicating appointment times with healthcare providers. The role greets and directs visitors, patients and staff; and answers, transfers, or relays messages to appropriate staff personnel. The Clerk is the first point of contact on the unit and handles, redirects, or relays pertinent information to the health care team, patients, and the public. The Clerk maintains the inventory of stationery and supplies and ensures that patient and unit records are complete, up to date and accessible to the care team. Description:

The Clerk IV provides complex clerical support. The Clerk IV performs these tasks in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 41 Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

One year related post secondary certificate required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must have two to three years directly related experience. Current or previous ambulatory care experience - Current or previous acute hospital clerical or medical office experience preferred. Must be familiar with health care related software, e.g. VAX, e-Clinician, Netcare, Connect Care.

Preferred Qualifications:

Surgical Suite Booking Clerk experience preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication skills. Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload effectively. Must remain efficient while dealing with numerous interruptions. Committed to accuracy and attention to detail. Must be capable of working in a fast paced, patient care environment.
