Are you looking for an opportunity for additional income as a cook? Do you have culinary experience with a Cook's Red Seal – Journeyman’s Certificate or equivalent? This position is at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital and is comparable to an industry Demi-Chef de Partie position. The patient food services department in this multi-service facility makes a difference every day in the lives of over 40 patients and long-term care residents by preparing and serving high quality from scratch meals with excellent customer service. As a casual employee, you can take shifts around your schedule, allowing you the freedom to set your own work-life balance. We are seeking individuals that can work at least one shift a week either early mornings 0600 start time or day shifts to 1800. The Cook I is responsible for the preparation of food items for patients, residents, cafeteria service, catered events, and community food programs. Work is to be completed in a safe manner with superior quality and customer service. The Cook I will learn healthcare therapeutic, and texture modified diets, training and resources provided. As a Cook I you will also provide customer service in the cafeteria, prepare baked items, clean and sanitize your work area, equipment and tools. You will work under minimal supervision, following all applicable policies and standard operating procedures. The Cook I is responsible for the provision of care in alignment with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Covenant Health and the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. Required Qualifications: A Journeyman certificate is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:Grade 12 or equivalent. Minimum two [2] years of recent institutional food service experience, large quantity cooking experience, required. Will consider a recognized equivalent or demonstrated recent and related experience. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Basic knowledge of regular and special diets. Intermediate computer skills. Able to follow recipes. Food Safe Certification. Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadlines. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:Ability to follow directions and guidelines. An aptitude to learn healthcare therapeutic and texture modified diets. Exacting standards for cleanliness and sanitation. Elevated levels of honesty and integrity. Ability to do mathematical calculations. WHMIS training preferred. The preferred candidate will work in a team setting and must possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
