Your Opportunity:

Responsibilities of the Cooks Assistant - Purchaser include but are not limited to the following: Preparing breakfast and lunch for patients. Setting up and preparing for following day. Ordering groceries as needed. Inventory control. Working with multiple people/departments. Utilizes food products to minimize loss due to spoilage. Allocate time effectively to ensure food is prepared for service times as scheduled. Ensure product quality & quantity. Please note: Classifications Under Review.

Description:

The Cook's Assistant works under limited supervision and in accordance with catering or tally sheets in prioritizing, preparing and storing a variety of fresh ingredients and foods that will be served to patients.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or recognized equivalent required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum one [1] year experience with on-line ordering system. Minimum one [1] year recent institutional, large quantity cooking experience required. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English required. Knowledge of food preparation, quantity food preparation techniques, safe food handling, and sanitation procedures required. Ability to work independently, and possesses capability to work as part of a team. Able to follow directions and guidelines. Good time management skills, planning for deadlines. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate knowledge of cleanliness and sanitation. Occasionally required to lift weights up to 20 kg. Exposure to temperature changes in work area. Required to operate electrical equipment. Exposure to noise and vibrations. Required to stand for entire work shift. Hands in water for long periods of time. Proactive in thinking of new effective ways of performing their own tasks. Ability to produce new methods to make better use of food products.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent required preferred. Completion of a recognized cooking program at the certificate level from a recognized education institute preferred. Knowledge of W.H.M.I.S. preferred.
