Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Supervisor for Environmental Services and Hospitality, this Environmental Service Worker II (ESWII) is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients/residents, staff and visitors by performing routine cleaning as well as maintenance of floors and carpets (waxing, stripping, refinishing, burnishing, carpet cleaning and extraction) including the operation of floor machines. The ESW II assists with the transport and set-up of furniture, equipment and supplies and removes, transports and stores biochemical and hazardous chemical waste. The ESW II is responsible for performing other related duties as required. The ESW II daily routines and approaches at work are to produce a clean, safe, comfortable environment for patients, resident, visitors and staff. The ESW II must maintain the highest level of confidentiality, and be respectful and compassionate in all interactions. The ESW II participates in departmental meetings and programs, participates in the training/orientation of new staff and students and performs other duties as required. These tasks are to be completed with minimal supervision, and is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established operating standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health and St Michael’s Health Centre.
Description:
The Environmental Services Worker II transports waste materials to sorting, disposal and storage areas, transports linens, and performs basic grounds keeping. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 408 St. Michael's Collective Agreement.

Completion of Grade 10 or recognized equivalent required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to perform specialized cleaning procedures in isolation areas. High standard of cleanliness and sanitation with strong attention to detail. Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, fluent in English. Basic computer skills are a necessity. Ability to work as part of a team and also independently. Possess good time management skills, able to follow directions, work to deadlines, and have attention to detail. Capable of meeting the physical demands of the position; able to stand for long periods of time and ability to move and lift up to 75 lbs. Possess the fortitude to work in a hospital setting. Valid 6-month Criminal Records Check. Work shift hours on weekends only from 0730 – 1430 and Named Holidays as required.
Preferred Qualifications:Completion of Grade 12. Previous cleaning experiences in a health care setting around floor care maintenance. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills and training in customer relations. WHMIS certificate.
