Your Opportunity:

The Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre is seeking casual Health Care Aides to support our staffing pool. These roles offer near full-time hours through the summer, with continued availability into the fall. Our Health Care Aides (HCAs) work as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, providing compassionate care to nearly 500 residents in long-term care, subacute care, and hospice. Our facility, located in the heart of Edmonton, offers a supportive environment where healthcare professionals can grow and make a real difference. This opportunity is ideal for nursing students looking to gain hands-on experience while managing academic workload. As an HCA, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your classroom knowledge in a real-world setting, helping to build the clinical skills essential for a successful nursing career. Working closely with a team of experienced healthcare professionals, you’ll provide compassionate care and support to residents through daily activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, mobility, and toileting. Under supervision, you may also assist with basic wound care and medication administration, gaining valuable exposure to a range of clinical practices. Description: The Health Care Aide (HCA) provides basic nursing care to patients/residents as directed, assists with activities of daily living, and performs other activities necessary to meet the personal needs of patients/residents. The HCA maintains and promotes patient/resident safety, comfort, privacy, dignity and independence, and performs duties to maintain an aesthetic environment. The HCA is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Active status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed: 1) a continuing care or medicine unit placement, and 2) either Year 1 of a practical nursing program; or Year 2 of a baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program, and 3) knowledge and experience with medication assistance; will be considered. Candidates who are In Progress on the Directory may be considered. Candidates will be required to provide proof of Active enrolment on the Directory. Physically able to assist with all aspects of patient/resident care and transport, e.g. walking, standing, bending and lifting. Must be able to understand written and verbal directions in English.

Additional Required Qualifications:

New grad HCAs, as well as RN and LPN nursing students are welcome to apply, though must be actively enrolled on the Alberta HCA Directory at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:

Connect Care experience. Recent Continuing Care experience.
