Your Opportunity:
The Surgical Casual pool supports both Units 41 and 42. Both units are high acuity, high patient turnover and high intensity. Both units provide an equally challenging environment working alongside supportive teams. Unit 41 is the inpatient unit for the Northern Alberta Vascular Centre specializing in vascular surgery. The patient population also consists of general surgery, orthopedics and plastics. Unit 42 is the main inpatient unit for general surgery, gynecological surgery, orthopedics, plastics and ENT. Both teams strive to provide the best in patient care with a focus on engaging both patients and family in care delivery. Description: The Health Care Aide (HCA) provides basic nursing care to patients/residents as directed, assists with activities of daily living, and performs other activities necessary to meet the personal needs of patients/residents. The HCA maintains and promotes patient/resident safety, comfort, privacy, dignity and independence, and performs duties to maintain an aesthetic environment. The HCA is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: Active status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed: 1) a continuing care or medicine unit placement, and 2) either Year 1 of a practical nursing program; or Year 2 of a baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program, and 3) knowledge and experience with medication assistance; will be considered. Candidates who are In Progress on the Directory may be considered. Candidates will be required to provide proof of Active enrolment on the Directory. Physically able to assist with all aspects of patient/resident care and transport, e.g. walking, standing, bending and lifting. Must be able to understand written and verbal directions in English.
Additional Required Qualifications:Current enrollment in HCA directory required. Current Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Minimum of 2 years acute surgery and/or medicine experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to applicants who have availability for night shifts, including both scheduled and short-notice shifts. Candidates should indicate their typical availability in their application. Given the independent nature of night shift work, applicants with previous experience in acute care or similar environments may be given priority consideration.
