Your Opportunity:
We’re looking for compassionate Nursing Students eager to enhance their skills through hands-on patient care. This is a summer growth opportunity available to individuals currently enrolled in a LPN or RN nursing program. Working as a Health Care Aide (HCA) during your nursing program will deepen your clinical knowledge and prepare you for success after graduation by bridging theory and practice. In this role, you will provide direct care and support to patients, assisting with activities such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, feeding, and exercise, while ensuring their comfort and dignity. You may also assist (within the scope of an HCA) with basic wound care, urinary care, and medication administration under supervision, working alongside a team of healthcare professionals to deliver compassionate, safe, and efficient care. To qualify, you must be currently enrolled in a recognized LPN or RN nursing program and registered on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory prior to your start date. Students can use their unofficial transcripts to confirm they meet the Directory’s requirements. Strong communication, interpersonal skills, independence, and flexibility are essential for success in this role. This position offers valuable experience across various care environments and will help you develop essential skills that support your nursing career after graduation. The successful candidate will join the casual pool and be available for near full-time hours over the summer. The HCA maintains and promotes patient/resident safety, comfort, privacy, dignity and independence, and performs duties to maintain an aesthetic environment. The HCA is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. Required Qualifications: Active status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed: 1) a continuing care or medicine unit placement, and 2) either Year 1 of a practical nursing program; or Year 2 of a baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program, and 3) knowledge and experience with medication assistance; will be considered. Candidates who are In Progress on the Directory may be considered. Candidates will be required to provide proof of Active enrolment on the Directory. Physically able to assist with all aspects of patient/resident care and transport, e.g. walking, standing, bending and lifting. Must be able to understand written and verbal directions in English.
Additional Required Qualifications:Must be currently enrolled in a recognized RN, RPN, or LPN nursing program. Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, dated within six (6) months prior to start date, is required. Resume must include eligibility and details of status of Alberta HCA Directory enrolment application.
Preferred Qualifications:Geriatric Care or Long-Term Care experience an asset.
