Required Qualifications: Graduate from a Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM) recognized program for Health Information Management Professionals required. Registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) is required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Knowledge of current Canadian Coding Standards and Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and National Ambulatory Care Reporting Standards (NACRS) Abstracting Manuals for the collection of diagnoses, interventions and specific data elements. Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and a demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development. Ability to work independently with strong organizational, time management, analytical, and technical skills to effectively handle demands of workload and deadlines, working effectively under pressure and showing good judgment. Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). Ability to work with minimal supervision under considerable stress. Able to work as a team member to achieve area and department goals. Demonstrated ongoing professional and personal development. Knowledge of the Health Information Act. Travel Expense Reimbursement: Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.
Preferred Qualifications:1-year minimum coding experience with ICD-10-CA/CCI. Consideration given to those who have not coded within 2 years but have a certificate from a CCHIM approved Coding Refresher or Coding Specialist Program. Experience with Connect Care (EPIC) & 3M HDM abstracting system. Certified Coding & Classification Specialist (CCCS) certification with CCHIM.
