Required Qualifications: Diploma from an approved Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) Program is required. Registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) is required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 5 years’ experience as a clinical coding specialist with proficiency in coding all DAD and NACRS abstracts. Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CA/CCI coding system. Thorough knowledge of CIHI Canadian Coding Standards. Thorough knowledge of medical essentials (anatomy, disease processes). Excellent written and verbal communication. Strong organizational skills. Accurate. Must have ability to prioritize. Strong leadership skills. A working knowledge of computerized abstracting systems. (e.g. 3M Encoder). Ability to learn and utilize a variety of clinical and administrative computer systems. Ability to work with minimal supervision under considerable stress. Able to work as a team member to achieve area and department goals. Demonstrated ongoing professional and personal development. Knowledge of the Health Information Act.
Preferred Qualifications:Certified Clinical Coding Specialist designation. Additional Leadership experience or training.
