Required Qualifications: Diploma from an approved Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) Program is required. Registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) is required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Certified Clinical Coding Specialist designation (CCCS). Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CA/CCI coding system. Thorough knowledge of CIHI Canadian Coding Standards. Minimum 3-5 years of coding experience with DAD and NACRS at a large site requiring knowledge of multiservice coding. Thorough knowledge of medical essentials (anatomy, disease processes). Excellent written and verbal communication. Strong organizational skills. Accurate. Must have ability to prioritize. Strong leadership skills. Strong critical thinking and analysis skills. Familiar with report building and generating reports. A working knowledge of computerized abstracting systems. (e.g. 3M Encoder). Ability to learn and utilize a variety of clinical and administrative computer systems. Ability to work with minimal supervision under considerable stress. Able to work as a team member to achieve area and department goals. Experience with training Clinical Coding Specialists. Demonstrated ongoing professional and personal development. Knowledge of the Health Information Act. Minimum 1 year of performing Data Collection audits and or answering coding queries. Knowledge of Provincial Connect Care system and Provincial Coding and Abstraction System.
Preferred Qualifications:Other designations: CDIS (Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist), CTSS (Certified Terminology Standards Specialist). Leadership training.
