Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or other health related science required. Three years of related experience in health care either acute care or continuing care setting required. A combination of experience and proficiency in two of the following areas, will be considered: Patient Care Practice. Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. Epidemiology and Bio statistics. Skills and expertise to communicate knowledge and support delivery of the Infection Control Work plan. Interpersonal skills including negotiation, influencing, facilitating, conflict resolution and the ability to form positive working relationships. Self-motivated, positive, and confident with the ability to cope under stress. Combination of education and experience considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Currently licensed with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) or an application professional licensing body, required. Must be maintained throughout duration of employment. Completion of basic Infection Prevention and Control training course, or commitment to attend training once employed, required. Participates in position related professional members (IPAC – Canada). Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS Level C – Health Care Provider required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous Infection Prevention and Control experience preferred. It is preferred that the ICP will complete additional formal training in Infection Prevention & Control within the first year of practice. It is preferred that the ICP following 2 years of practice, obtain and maintain requirements for Certification in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC).
