Your Opportunity:
The Villa Caritas Geriatric Psychiatry Program is an acute inpatient facility that provides prompt, accessible, and specialized assessment, treatment, consultation, and support services. The treatments and services provided are guided by evidence-based research and best practices. This 150-bed facility has 120 acute care beds divided into 4 units that are allocated for acute geriatric psychiatry patients, and a 30-bed geriatric psychiatry transitional unit. Villa Caritas is a designated facility. Patients are admitted on a voluntary basis or involuntarily under the Mental Health Act. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Clinical Nurse Educator shares with the Mental Health Program management team joint responsibility for the delivery of the quality holistic patient centered care through the provision of staff education. As a self-directed professional, the Clinical Nuse Educator (CNE) promotes continuing staff development by the evaluating staff education needs, providing nursing orientation, interdisciplinary in-services, and evaluating education programs provided. The CNE collaborates with members of Addictions and Mental Health Programs in developing and planning of regional education initiatives. The CNE shares mental health expertise while accessing expert resources to meet the varied learning needs of the program staff. The CNE guides and coaches staff nurses in their clinical development through orientation, in-services and mentoring. The CNE acts as a professional role model; maintains and develops clinical skills and knowledge; networks with colleagues; and participates in and promotes clinical nursing and research.
Description:
The Instructor's primary role is to ensure the delivery of quality patient care and excellence in nursing. Exercising adult principles of learning, the Instructor will design, enhance and provide staff orientation, education, clinical consultation, development, and/or evaluation. The Instructor's nursing practice will reflect a current, broad knowledge base, and excellent nursing skills that enable her/him to function as a role model and support staff in accordance with Covenant Health's Mission, Vision, and Values. The Instructor will function independently in formal and informal learning environments. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or other applicable degree required. Combination of education and experience will be considered. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 5 years recent Psychiatric/Mental Health experience. Expertise in patient assessment, therapeutic alliance, crisis intervention, and psychotropic medications. Working knowledge of a broad range of therapeutic approaches. Working knowledge of the DSM V and Mental Health Act. Understands the principles of adult learning principles to effectively teach adult learners. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Clinical role model. Must be flexible, highly motivated, and self-directed. Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team. Ability to assume different roles within the team. Ability to work independently when required. Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate Mental Health educational programs.
Preferred Qualifications:An excellent attendance record and personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment record and references. Strong knowledge of Alternative Level of Care, Goals of Care and Continuing care. Advanced knowledge and skill in evidence-based assessment and treatment of mental illness is required. Critical thinking skills, working knowledge on the management of concurrent disorders and medical co-morbidities, and the principles of -chronic disease management and recovery.
