Reporting to the Program Manager of Operative Services, the Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) is a self-directed professional primarily responsible for supporting the Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU), Pre-admission Clinic (PAC), Operating Room (OR), and the broader Operative Services program. The CNE ensures the delivery of quality patient care and promotes excellence in nursing practice by enhancing staff development through orientation, education, and mentorship. The CNE will critically assess, evaluate, and proactively manage risks to patient and team safety, advocating evidence-based practice and clinical improvements. As a role model aligned with Covenant Health’s Mission, Vision, and Values, the CNE independently facilitates education in formal and informal learning environments, contributing to policy and procedure research, development, and implementation. Additionally, the CNE supports corporate responsibilities and collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
Description:
The Instructor's primary role is to ensure the delivery of quality patient care and excellence in nursing. Exercising adult principles of learning, the Instructor will design, enhance and provide staff orientation, education, clinical consultation, development, and/or evaluation. The Instructor's nursing practice will reflect a current, broad knowledge base, and excellent nursing skills that enable her/him to function as a role model and support staff in accordance with Covenant Health's Mission, Vision, and Values. The Instructor will function independently in formal and informal learning environments. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or other applicable degree required. Combination of education and experience will be considered. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) required from a recognized institution. Completion of postgraduate Operating Room nursing course and/or Completion of postgraduate Critical Care nursing course required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) certification required. Minimum five years of current clinical experience in acute care specializing in Operating Room, PACU, Critical Care, or related perioperative areas required. Extensive knowledge of pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care. Strong clinical competencies in Operating Room and Post Anesthetic Recovery. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills; open, honest, tactful with positive reinforcement style. Ability to effectively present educational material to large groups. Proficient with electronic charting and Microsoft Office Suite. Proven problem-solving, prioritization, and conflict resolution skills. Self-motivated and self-directed. Clinical and professional role model with advocacy for patients, families, and staff. Physical ability to lift 25 lbs., push, pull, bend, and stand for prolonged periods (over 30 minutes). Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, other hospital departments, and regional educational facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:Master's in a health or business-related field preferred. Combination of education and experience may be considered. Previous experience in clinical education, staff mentoring, and leadership preferred. Research skills preferred. Project work experience an asset. Membership with Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) and/or National Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses of Canada (NPANc) preferred.
