Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Instructor provides clinical expertise for the PACU/PAC & Booking Office team including of RNs, LPNs, and general support staff on the unit. The instructor promotes and models leadership competencies, by demonstrating good judgement and critical thinking skills, developing, and maintaining strong nursing practice in the designated surgical specialty. The instructor fosters team effectiveness by demonstrating multifaceted interpersonal skills, communicating effectively, and seeking to resolve staff issues. The position critically assesses, evaluates, and anticipates risks to patient and team safety and promotes the development of clinical practice improvements and supports the implementation of evidence-based practice. The instructor develops a supportive environment for multidisciplinary learning. The instructor collaborates with the perioperative leadership team on performance concerns and safety issues

Description:

The Instructor's primary role is to ensure the delivery of quality patient care and excellence in nursing. Exercising adult principles of learning, the Instructor will design, enhance and provide staff orientation, education, clinical consultation, development, and/or evaluation. The Instructor's nursing practice will reflect a current, broad knowledge base, and excellent nursing skills that enable her/him to function as a role model and support staff in accordance with Covenant Health's Mission, Vision, and Values. The Instructor will function independently in formal and informal learning environments. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or other applicable degree required. Combination of education and experience will be considered. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both spoken and written. Proven problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Excellent assessment and organizational skills. Computer skills including experience with electronic charting and Microsoft Outlook. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. and have the physical ability to push, pull, bend, and stand for prolonged periods of time (more than 30 minutes). Committed to safe, effective, and ethical patient care and work practices. Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly stressful environment. Able to deescalate tense situations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to participate as an effective member of and lead the interprofessional team. Good organizational skills as well as problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. Exercises good judgment in decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous Instructor/CNE experience, team leads and/or Charge nurse experience preferred.
