Your Opportunity:
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the RN/RPN provides safe, patient centered care, on a 30 bed Geriatric Psychiatry Admission unit. Current Nursing process is applied to achieve leadership and excellence in Dementia Mental Health care, utilizing best practice and policies driven to maintain the integrity of patient care. Ensures the delivery of safe and effective patient care by: Utilizing critical thinking and time management skills to complete primary nurse and team assignments. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team and with other services. Assisting in staff orientation and student learning experiences. Description: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care and support to patients/residents and families. The LPN must be able to team lead effectively on their own. The LPN works to the full scope of practice in providing safe, quality care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Current and active registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (C.A.R.N.A.) and/or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (C.R.P.N.A) required. Experience in mental health (Geriatric Psychiatry) or related settings required. Ability to provide leadership and function as a team member. Ability to work independently. Ability to work in a fast paced and, at times, highly stressful environment. Ability to recognize and manage the needs of dementia patients. Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently. Strong assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to patient changes in status. Strong communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to meet varying needs. Good organizational and conflict resolution skills required. Excellent time management skills. Proven dependability. Ability to be objective in decision making. Ability to be proactive with independent learning needs and up to date with current competencies.
Preferred Qualifications:Current Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training preferred. I.V. certification and Alaris pump training preferred. Charge nurse experience preferred.
