Our Surgical Day Ward (SDW) supports patients across a broad range of surgical specialties, including general surgery, urology, gynecology, plastics, orthopedics, and craniofacial procedures. In this fast paced and collaborative environment, you will perform comprehensive assessments, support pre operative preparation, and guide patients through their post operative recovery to ensure a safe transition home. Description: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care and support to patients/residents and families. The LPN must be able to team lead effectively on their own. The LPN works to the full scope of practice in providing safe, quality care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:2 years (within the last 2.5 years) surgical experience required. A successful preceptorship on surgery in the last year or 2 years (within the last 2.5 years) critical care experience in ICU, emergency, PACU, or endoscopy.
Preferred Qualifications:Day surgery and/or ambulatory connect care proficiency. Charge trained. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills. Excellent assessment and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast paced, highly stressful environment. Able to deescalate tense situations.
