Your Opportunity:
The Maintenance Worker IV role provides an excellent opportunity for an individual with a 4th Class Power Engineer certificate to support the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of an ABSA classified heating plant located within a Covenant Health facility. This position performs work that requires specialized knowledge in boiler systems, pressure equipment, HVAC systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS), ensuring all operations meet Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, inspection, and maintenance of boiler systems and heating plant components, supporting reliable and consistent building operations. Alongside heating plant responsibilities, the role includes a wide range of specialized and general maintenance duties, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and building controls work. The position also performs inspections and preventative maintenance activities that contribute to the safety and long term performance of facility infrastructure. This opportunity is well suited for someone with strong technical skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to maintaining safe and compliant healthcare environments—while applying their 4th Class Power Engineering expertise to support the building’s ABSA classified heating plant and broader facility maintenance needs. Please note: Classifications Under Review. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, Covenant Health currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Description:
The Maintenance Worker IV performs skilled maintenance and repair duties on specialized equipment and building control systems requiring considerable initiative and judgment in accordance with accepted standards, regulations, manufacturer specifications and procedures. The Working Lead provides guidance to lower level maintenance workers within the facility. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE General Support Services Collective Agreement.

A 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate or a trade on the Government of Alberta list of Compulsory and Optional Certification Trades is required. Must have a valid Class 5 driver's license.
Additional Required Qualifications:Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented with ability to prioritize. Computer literacy required (Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel). Ability to communicate clearly in English, verbally and in writing. Competence with tools, equipment, and test instruments used for maintenance, repair, and system monitoring. Ability to maintain composure and sound judgment in emergencies. Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications; locate operational data from manuals. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and technical problem-solving abilities. Travel Expense Reimbursement: Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum two years’ experience in a hospital or long-term care facility environment. Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS/eFacilities) and building control systems (BCMS/BAS).
