Your Opportunity:

The Outpatient Cardiology Clinic at the Misericordia hospital is a busy and fast-paced ambulatory area. The medical secretaries are required to coordinate and book appointments for patients with our physician group, Cardiology Technologists, Nurse Practitioner, and for inpatient and outpatient diagnostic tests. The secretaries work in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team to provide timely care and attention to the patients who come into the clinic, both in-person and over the phone. Ability to multi-task and think critically is required. Please note: Classifications Under Review.

Description:

The Medical Secretary provides complex secretarial support. The Medical Secretary performs these tasks in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 2111 Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or recognized equivalent required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of a secretarial arts program from a recognized institution required. Recent secretarial experience within the last year. Must have excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio. Requirements are as follows: Proficiency in spelling, punctuation and grammar; Word processing (Microsoft Word) speed: 60-70 w.p.m.; Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both in person and by telephone; Professional approach with reception duties; medical terminology.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to work independently with minimal direction or supervision in a stressful, active area with frequent interruptions. Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize. Detail orientated. Must handle all personal contacts with tact and diplomacy. Excellent discernment of sensitive issues and management of same in an environment requiring strict confidentiality.
