Your Opportunity:

The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides their expertise in a dynamic and every changing Rehabilitation environment. The position involves consultation and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, including supervising therapy assistants. In addition, the OT attends and contributes to the weekly rounds through written and/or verbal report. As an educator, the OT will seize opportunities for teaching moments with patients and their families as well as participate in the admission and discharge planning processes. The OT assesses and continually monitors our Patients/Residents and clearly communicates concerns with other staff and physicians. The OT works closely with other stakeholders in the patient's rehabilitative journey. This OT position provides support to several units under the Long-Term Care/Rehabilitation umbrella within St. Michael's Health Centre, including Post Acute Rehab Program, Palliative Care, Complex Medical and regular open/locked Long-Term Care.

Description: The Occupational Therapist I (OT) services are primarily clinical in nature and require expertise in the functional assessment and treatment, client centred case management and discharge planning. Areas of treatment include but are not limited to: orthopedics, acute, stroke, post-op hands, lower extremity clinic, splinting, mental health, cognitive assessments. The position also involves consultations and collaboration with hospital staff and community agencies, and working closely with an interdisciplinary team including supervision of therapist assistant staff in the delivery of hospital based rehabilitation. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Paramedical Professional/Technical Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Graduate of an Occupational Therapy program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong understanding of post-acute rehabilitation care, including pain management, mobility support, and recovery from surgery or injury. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate care and support to patients and their families. Must be able to concentrate over extended periods of time. Physically able to complete all demanding aspects of patient/resident care and transport, e.g. walking, standing, bending, lifting, assuming awkward positions and standing for long durations of time. Must be able to understand written and verbal directions in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working in a rehabilitation setting preferred.
