Covenant Health Adult Acute Inpatient Mental Health and Addiction at the Grey Nuns is seeking a casual Occupational Therapist I to join the team. The Occupational Therapist will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team that supports individualized and group programming guided by the individual, reinforcing Recovery, Engagement, and Inclusive Care. This position is responsible for enabling occupation through assessment, treatment planning, intervention, consultation, education, and follow-up, based on the patient’s individualized goals, with outcomes focused on enabling the patient (client, resident) to perform meaningful daily occupations. This position also provides clinical direction to support personnel and students. You will review clinical referrals, accept, screen, and assess client needs from an occupational therapy perspective in collaboration with other health disciplines. Description: The Occupational Therapist I (OT) services are primarily clinical in nature and require expertise in the functional assessment and treatment, client centred case management and discharge planning. Areas of treatment include but are not limited to: orthopedics, acute, stroke, post-op hands, lower extremity clinic, splinting, mental health, cognitive assessments. The position also involves consultations and collaboration with hospital staff and community agencies, and working closely with an interdisciplinary team including supervision of therapist assistant staff in the delivery of hospital based rehabilitation. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Paramedical Professional/Technical Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: Graduate of an Occupational Therapy program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Three years of work experience in mental health and addictions is required and knowledge of Edmonton Zone Mental Health and Addiction resources is essential. Advanced knowledge of: mental illnesses, addictions, concurrent disorders, culturally informed and evidence based/evidence informed treatment (including risk screening and crisis management). Working knowledge of the identification and management of concurrent disorders and medical co-morbidities, and the principles of chronic disease management and recovery are required. The ability to work independently with occasional review, consultation and evaluation from a manager or supervisor. Current NVCI training. Working knowledge of patient and family centered care principles. Working knowledge of trauma informed care principles. Working knowledge of relevant legislation is required, including The Alberta Mental Health Act and Health Information Act. Excellent communication skills an ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working in an Addiction & Mental Health setting. Understanding of the criminal justice system as it relates to Mental Health and Addiction care settings. Connect Care knowledge and working within a rehabilitative and recovery orientated framework.
