Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Provincial Manager, the Provincial Project Pharmacist participates in quality assurance, innovation, and patient safety projects/activities related to the provincial pharmacy services portfolio. This position contributes to policy and procedure review, medication quality & safety improvement initiatives, and technological integration & innovation projects. Additional responsibilities include supporting provincial strategies, operationalization of formulary updates, backorder management, and EPIC system initiatives. The position uses outcome metrics data and RLS information to guide targeted learning interventions, reinforce safe medication practices, and support pharmacy staff in applying organizational policies and standards to support the delivery of safe, high-quality pharmacy services. This role develops, implements, and evaluates education and training programs for new and existing pharmacy staff. It fosters collaborative practice by facilitating communication, teamwork, and shared decision-making among pharmacy services and other healthcare professionals. Through education and mentorship, the position ensures pharmacy staff are equipped to deliver safe, efficient, and evidence-based care in alignment with Covenant Health’s mission and values. To ensure practice-informed training and support remain responsive to operational realities, the position will participate in one dispensary active practice shift every 2 weeks alternating between the MCH and GNH. The position integrates clinical expertise with provincial leadership in quality improvement, patient safety, innovation, and EPIC system initiatives, while maintaining ongoing frontline dispensary practice. This role delivers data-driven, practice-informed education and standardized training to support safe, consistent, and evidence-based pharmacy practice across all Covenant sites.

Description: The Pharmacist I is responsible for the provision of safe, effective, and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. The Pharmacist I manages medication therapy and intervenes as required to optimize patient outcomes. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Paramedical Professional/Technical Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Pharmacy program or recognized equivalent required. Active license with the Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) required. Additional prescribing authorization as a requirement within 18 months of hire required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years’ experience as a hospital pharmacist. Holds additional prescribing authorization (APA). Have recent direct patient care experience (at least 1 year within the last 3 years), working clinically as part of healthcare team providing integrated pharmacy care. Have recent pharmacist training experience and/or project implementation experience (at least 1 year within the last 3 years). Working knowledge of hospital pharmacy department workflows. Experience in/with a hospital pharmacy providing services such as IV admixtures, review, assessment and verification of medication orders. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited hospital residency/Pharm D program. Experience with design, delivery and evaluation of education/training. Member of Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists.
