Your Opportunity:

Pharmacy Technicians who work at the Misericordia and Villa Caritas hospitals collaborate with other healthcare professionals, and other external stakeholders to provide care to our patients. The Misericordia Community Hospital provides a full range of acute care services to the growing West Edmonton community, following a deep-rooted tradition of healing the body, enriching the mind and nurturing the soul. With 312 acute care beds, the hospital provides a wide range of services that include a 24-hour emergency department, child health clinic, general internal medicine, cardiac care, NICU, obstetrics, orthopedics, surgery, a comprehensive breast program and the world-renowned Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine. Practicing within their full scope, the Pharmacy Technician performs all aspects of drug distribution including medication order entry, preparation and repackaging of patient specific and ward stock medications. Other duties include keeping records of narcotics and controlled drugs and assisting in inventory control and purchasing. This position is responsible for final product checking and providing clinical support for the provision of patient care.

The Pharmacy Technician provides technical and operational assistance to the Pharmacy Department in the preparation, checking, distribution and procurement of pharmaceuticals. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the provision of services in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a Pharmacy Technician program or recognized equivalent required Active registration with Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) required

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of a CCCAP Accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Registered, or eligible for registration, with the Alberta College of Pharmacists as a pharmacy technician. The ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately and be able to distinguish routine functions with those requiring professional judgment is essential. Computer and keyboarding skills are necessary. Candidates must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time. Required to work with arms extended for sustained periods of time Required to lift up to 30 lb. and occasionally 50 lb. Required to push/pull carts. Required to bend repetitively. Manual dexterity and visual acuity to accurately prepare pharmaceuticals is required. Preference given to candidates with experience in various pharmacy technology and software, including Pyxis, Automed, AutoPrint, BDM Centricity, Epic.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1 year experience in a Hospital Pharmacy or similar setting. Recent or current volunteer experience related to pharmacy, or development of the profession such as with a pharmacy technician professional organization (e.g. PTSA, CAPT) or with a regulatory or certification body (e.g. ACP, NAPRA, PEBC). Membership with a pharmacy professional organization, like PTSA, is an asset.
