Your Opportunity:
The Physiotherapist I is an integral member of an inter-disciplinary health care team within our Geriatric Adult Day Program. This team includes RN’s, HCA’s, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Recreation Therapists, Therapy Assistants, Registered Dietitians, Pharmacists, Unit Clerks and a Geriatrician. The Geriatric Community Rehabilitation (GCR), Bridges Day, and Adult Day Programs are the premier outpatient seniors' programs in Southern Alberta. The GCR program serves seniors who require outpatient therapy services. This program focuses primarily on rehabilitation after an event or injury. The Bridges Day program serves our seniors in the community by providing maintenance care through social, cognitive and physical engaging activities in the hope of maintaining independence. This role focuses on promoting mobility, functional independence, fall prevention, and overall quality of life for older adults with complex medical, cognitive, and functional needs. Services are delivered in a client-centered, culturally sensitive, and evidence-informed manner, supporting clients to remain active and engaged in their community.
Description:
The Physical Therapist I (PT) is responsible for providing direct client focused therapeutic care, in collaboration and consultation with other members of the interdisciplinary team. The PT assesses physical status of clients, participates in the development and implementation of an integrated plan of care. The PT is responsible for the provision of services in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Paramedical Professional/Technical Collective Agreement.

Graduate of a Physical Therapy program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta is required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent experience working with older adults in community-based programs or adult day program settings. Ability to spend prolonged periods standing and walking, with frequent close and supportive contact with clients. Physical capability to bend, pull, lift, and perform variable and repetitive movements, including assuming awkward positions. Ability to safely transfer and/or lift adults and transport equipment as required. Capacity to maintain focus over extended periods and respond diplomatically to client and family concerns. Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks, review referrals, coordinate and support students, and complete comprehensive therapy planning. Commitment to continuous learning with demonstrated clinical expertise. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:AADL Authorizer designation and previous Long Term Care experience are considered strong assets. Training in cognitive impairment–informed care, dementia care, or Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA). Experience supervising or mentoring therapy assistants and/or students. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, such as Connect Care, preferably within a Geriatric Adult Day Program setting.
