Your Opportunity:

This position is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients throughout the hospital. Responsibilities include the lifting and movement of patients and equipment on a regular basis, transporting lab specimens, blood and blood products, patient charts, and clean patient care equipment, the proper use and maintenance of hospital transport equipment, immediate reporting of equipment malfunction and other related duties. Must safely guard the confidentiality of patient records and information and consider the Covenant Health Vision and Values in daily interactions with colleagues, patients, and visitors. Please note: Classification under Review.

Description:

Porters are responsible for transporting people (patients, residents or clients) and a variety of equipment and supplies between different departments within the hospital, health centre or continuing care facility. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 2111 Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or recognized equivalent required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to work independently, set priorities, show good judgment and cooperation in daily tasks required. Must be mindful, reliable, and able to work as a team member. Physical suitability for reoccurring lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, standing, pushing, and walking for long periods of time is required. Must be sensitive to patient's need for personal dignity. Must demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with coworkers and other staff. The ability to read, speak, and write English fluently is required. Experience using computer applications such as Microsoft Office, email, eLearning applications, and Connect Care.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference given to individuals with experience in patient Portering.
