Covenant Health invites applications for a Clinical Prosthodontist to join the Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine (IRSM). IRSM is an internationally recognized clinic and research institute primarily specializing in the reconstruction of the head and neck for patients who have undergone cancer surgery. Established in 1993, IRSM was founded through a partnership between Covenant Health, Alberta Health Services and the University of Alberta. Based at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, IRSM is an Integrated Practice Unit, meaning a dedicated, interdisciplinary team composed of surgeons, prosthodontists, researchers, healthcare practitioners, technicians and administrators working together to provide care to a patient for their full cycle of care. Patient’s full cycle of care encompasses outpatient, inpatient, and rehabilitative care as well as supporting services such as patient education, engagement, and patient follow-up. The successful candidate will be expected to be empathetic and dedicated to highest level of patient care.

Description:

The successful applicant will be based at the Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. This prosthodontist position will be employed by Covenant Health and will report to the Executive Director, IRSM. The Prosthodontist will primarily have clinical responsibilities within the IRSM team, which include but are not limited to provision of prosthodontic care involving both intraoral and extraoral treatment, and any ongoing management/modification of the care provided over the patient’s full cycle of care as defined above. The incumbent will be expected to adhere to any quality management system implemented by IRSM, and/or support other quality improvement or technology advancement initiatives trialed or implemented at IRSM. In this role, the successful candidate will need to effectively communicate and collaborate with highly trained technical and administrative staff as part of the established patient care pathways to delivery state-of-the-art prosthodontic care. Opportunities may be available to participate in digital surgical planning and participation in the OR. The prosthodontist will be required to contribute to service and administrative activities at IRSM as determined by the Executive Director, IRSM. Compensation is based on qualifications and experience. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:

Undergraduate university degree in dentistry. DDS/DMD with subsequent specialty training in prosthodontics via a degree, certification and/or fellowship. Successful completion of a graduate specialty program in prosthodontics. Eligible for an active permit for prosthodontic clinical procedures with the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in providing prosthodontic care. Experience working with head-and-neck cancer patients. Proven to have strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a complex multi-stakeholder environment.
