Your Opportunity:
Villa Caritas is a 150 bed acute secure geriatric psychiatry hospital. The hospital has 5 units each composed of 30 beds. Our facility provides comprehensive interdisciplinary assessment, individualized care and treatment with the goal of achieving maximum rehabilitation, optimal function and overall wellness to older adults with complex cognitive and psychiatric challenges. Patients admitted to our facility have been identified as having acute psychiatric symptoms and/or behavioral difficulties which significantly compromise their safety, physical and/or mental well-being. Our team delivers services through an interdisciplinary model in collaboration with medical personnel, community resources and family members in an effort to achieve the stabilization and successful discharge of our patients to an appropriate care setting. Reporting to the Unit Manager, and under the direction and supervision of the Charge Nurse, the Health Care Aide performs activities to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with patient care plan. All activities carried out by the Health Care Aide are consistent with Covenant Health's mission, values, policies and procedures. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Health Care Aide provides safe, Patient Centered Care throughout Villa Caritas. Description: The Psychiatric Aide/Health Care Aide provides basic nursing care to assist in meeting the patient's safety, hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and recreation needs on an adult acute care mental health unit. The main activity is providing one-to-one constant observation to highly at-risk patients, including recognizing unsafe behaviors or situations and maintaining effective communication with patient care team. All activities carried out by the Aide are consistent with Covenant Health's mission, values, policies and procedures. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: Candidates must be credentialed as either: Certified, Substantially Equivalent, or Deemed Competent, as per Alberta Health's hiring standards for HCAs. Physically able to assist with all aspects of patient/resident care and transport, e.g. walking, standing, bending and lifting. Additional Required Qualifications:Previous psychiatric experience as a Health Care Aide is an asset. Completion of the Health Care Aide program or recognized equivalent required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Ability to speak, read and write English fluently. Ability to maintain own educational requirements with the assistance of the education department and manager. Demonstrated patient care focused attitude in your day-to-day work. Ability to work independently and function as a team member. Ability to be self-directed, have good organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work in a fast-paced and, at times, highly stressful environment. Annual Influenza Immunization and FIT testing are required. Current CPR. Current clear Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search is required. Completion of grade 12 or equivalent preferred. Recent patient care experience in a Geriatric Psychiatry setting preferred. Experience with Connect Care preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:Successful completion a recognized mental health certificate program or have successfully completed one full time year (2022.75 hours) of working with psychiatry or dementia patients/residents within an acute care or continuing care setting. Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI).
