Description: The Psychiatric Aide/Health Care Aide provides basic nursing care to assist in meeting the patient's safety, hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and recreation needs on an adult acute care mental health unit. The main activity is providing one-to-one constant observation to highly at-risk patients, including recognizing unsafe behaviors or situations and maintaining effective communication with patient care team. All activities carried out by the Aide are consistent with Covenant Health's mission, values, policies and procedures. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Candidates must be credentialed as either: Certified, Substantially Equivalent, or Deemed Competent, as per Alberta Health's hiring standards for HCAs. Physically able to assist with all aspects of patient/resident care and transport, e.g. walking, standing, bending and lifting. Must be able to understand written and verbal directions in English. *Note: Enrolment in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory is a condition of employment for successful candidates. Preferred Qualifications:

Current Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training preferred. Experience with the Geriatric Mental Health population preferred.
