Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Unit Manager, and under the direction and supervision of the Charge nurse, the Psychiatric Aide/Health Care Aide carries out the care plan to facilitate a stable, trustworthy, and caring environment for clients with mental health disorders. All activities carried out by the Psychiatric Aide/Health Care Aide are consistent with Covenant Health's mission, values, policies and procedures. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, The Psychiatric Aide/Health Care Aide provides safe, Patient Centered Care. Recent patient care experience in a geriatric psychiatry or mental health setting. Please note: Number of hours per shift and shifts per cycle is for information purposes only.

Description: The Psychiatric Aide/Health Care Aide provides basic nursing care to assist in meeting the patient's safety, hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and recreation needs on an adult acute care mental health unit. The main activity is providing one-to-one constant observation to highly at-risk patients, including recognizing unsafe behaviors or situations and maintaining effective communication with patient care team. All activities carried out by the Aide are consistent with Covenant Health's mission, values, policies and procedures. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: Candidates must be credentialed as either: Certified, Substantially Equivalent, or Deemed Competent, as per Alberta Health's hiring standards for HCAs. Physically able to assist with all aspects of patient/resident care and transport, e.g. walking, standing, bending and lifting. Additional Required Qualifications:Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Completion of grade 10 or equivalent preferred. Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently. Ability to work independently and function as a team member. Ability to be self-directed, have good organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work in a fast-paced and, at times, highly stressful environment. N95 mask FIT testing is required. Recent patient care experience in a geriatric psychiatry or mental health setting.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent patient care experience in a Geriatric Psychiatry or mental health setting preferred. Successful completion of a recognized mental health certificate program, or have successfully completed one full time year (2022.75 hours) of working with psychiatry or dementia patients/residents within an acute care or continuing care setting. Ability to maintain own educational requirements with the assistance of the education department and manager.
