Your Opportunity:
The Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre team is seeking a Recreation Assistant. Under the clinical direction of the Recreation Therapist, the Recreation Assistant will implement goal-oriented recreation programs and activities that promote resident choice and independence while addressing the recreational and leisure needs of the residents. This role supports resident-centered care as part of the interdisciplinary team, provides direction to volunteers assisting with recreation groups, and performs other related duties as needed. All activities will be carried out in accordance with Covenant Health’s Mission, Vision, Values, Policies, and Procedures. The Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre provides long-term care, subacute care, and hospice care to nearly 500 residents, focusing on delivering personalized care to enhance their quality of life. Description: The Recreation Assistant plans, organizes and promotes a variety of meaningful recreation, leisure and social activities for clients, based on the clients' interests and abilities. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 41 Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: High School diploma or recognized equivalent required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to speak, read and write fluently in the English language required. Strong communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to meet varying needs. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage residents. Interest and commitment to working with residents experiencing cognitive and physical impairments. One year experience in continuing care. One year experience facilitating recreation programming with a special population.
Preferred Qualifications:Post-secondary education in a related field preferred. Proficiency with computers preferred. Class 4 driver’s license preferred. Possess skills in arts and crafts, music, drama and/or cultural arts.
