Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Labour and Delivery Unit Manager the Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care in the Obstetrical Operating and Post-Anesthesia Care Spaces. Maintaining a high degree of professionalism, the successful candidate acts as an advocate, coordinator, and liaison for the patient by identifying needs and setting priorities in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to provide holistic care during the intra-operative and/or immediate post-operative periods. The incumbent will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care in both a scrub and a circulating role as an integral part of the surgical team. The nurse is responsible to provide safe care throughout the patient stay in the OR and promotes their professional role by evaluating their own educational requirements and clinical practice. The RN will work within their full scope of practice on a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities. The nurse will practice using evidence-based measures and outcomes. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards (ORNAC), and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. Successful Candidates will work under the guidance of the Labour and Delivery Operating Room AHN and will be required to assume these Charge Nurse duties in their absence. The RN may be assigned to work in the Obstetrical Outpatient Clinic and/or Labour and Delivery Unit as well as the Antepartum Unit when required to do so.

Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Additional Required Qualifications:Completion of a recognized advanced nursing specialty program in Perinatal Nursing. 2 years of recent related experience in Labour and Delivery, specifically Perioperative and Perianesthesia nursing. Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certificate. Must be able to lift 25lbs and have the physical ability to push, pull, bend, and stand for prolonged periods of time (more than 30 minutes). Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both spoken and written. Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills. Excellent assessment and organizational skills. Computer skills including experience with electronic charting and Microsoft Outlook. Must be able to effectively demonstrate strong leadership skills within a fast paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent Team Lead and/or Charge Nurse experience an Asset. Perioperative Nursing Certification an Asset. Canadian Nursing Association (CNA) Certification in Perioperative Nursing an asset.
