Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Site Integrated Access Manager, the Bed Coordinator facilitates site patient access and flow and optimal bed/resource utilization, by leading the work of the Site Integrated Operation Centre (IOC). Utilizing their clinical knowledge and expertise about the site and patient throughput, they make decisions in collaboration with staff, physicians, and leadership on actions to accommodate the patients that require admission or discharge and ensure bed allocation and patient flow guidelines are followed. They have the entire site picture in terms of capacity, staffing, and support services deployment/utilization. This may include evaluating site capacity and reallocating resources to priority areas. They are the primary point of contact for the site and problem solve and make planning decisions that may require inputs from all support and nursing staff. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating movement of patients within and outside the site and in collaboration with partners such as the Edmonton Zone Integrated Operations Centre, Physicians, RAAPID, EMS, and Continuing Care, and other acute care sites. On evenings and weekends, the Bed Coordinator as part of the Site IOC is the primary point of contact for Director on-call or anyone needing to contact the site in the event of an emerging issue for immediate assessment and coordination.

Description:

The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years related adult acute care nursing experience with 1 year of Critical Care, Emergency Department or Site Utilization/Bed Coordination experience. Experience with prior leadership roles, such as a Charge Nurse or Team Lead in a complex, tertiary, acute care setting. Must be able to tolerate long periods of sitting or standing and repetitive movements involving fine motor muscles required for computer based charging and work tasks (5-8 hrs daily). Must be able to tolerate walking for up to 3 hrs. daily. Ability to complete physical nursing assessment s and hands on care as required, including bending, and overhead reaching. Must be able to wear a properly fitted N95 mask when required.
