This 12 month educational employment opportunity is designed for you! We are seeking curious, engaged and enthusiastic RNs who are ready to grow through a training program in the Misericordia CICU Department. This initiative offers a unique pathway into CICU nursing for acute care RNs who have not worked in CICU. Over one year, you will be immersed in a comprehensive educational and clinical development program designed to build confidence and essential CICU nursing skills in a safe, collaborative environment with ongoing mentorship. The program begins with foundational learning & supervised clinical training led by experienced CICU nurses and clinical educators. As your skills grow, you will gradually assume greater independence and become an integral member of the CICU team, contributing to high quality care across diverse critical care cases. This program provides a 1.0 FTE educational position for up to 12 months, with all course costs, materials and benefits covered. It offers valuable experience in a high volume urban CICU at one of Edmonton’s leading hospitals, supported by a multidisciplinary team committed to your growth. Description:

The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Additional Required Qualifications:

Emergency experience within the past 2 years OR A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Medical, Surgical, or Labor and Delivery units within the past 5 years. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment. The successful applicant will be required to successfully complete OPACCA, which includes both theoretical and practical components. Employees must achieve a minimum grade of 75% on the theoretical component AND on the final examination to progress to the practical component. Successful completion of both the theoretical and practical components are required to be considered successful in OPACCA. A 12-month return-for-service commitment with Covenant Health, in at least a 0.50 FTE and within the applicable department, is required. Employment under this position is governed by the terms outlined in “Local Condition XI, Addendum C – Re: Educational Opportunities: advanced studies in critical care orientation program, perioperative nursing program, obstetrics or the emergency room orientation program” of the Multi-Employer/UNA collective agreement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current ACLS and charge nurse experience. Excellent assessment, organization and documentation skills required. Strong interpersonal communication, stress management and conflict management skills. Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to identify own learning needs, seek guidance in professional practice when deficits occur and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
