Your Opportunity:

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the casual RN/RPN provides safe, Patient Centred Care. Current Nursing process is applied to achieve leadership and excellence in in-patient Acute Mental Health care, utilizing best practice and policies driven to maintain the integrity of patient care. Ensures the delivery of safe and effective patient care by: Utilizing critical thinking and time management skills to complete primary nurse and team assignments. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team and with other services. Assisting in staff orientation and student learning experiences.

Description:

The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN/RPN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN/RPN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN/RPN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a RN or RPN program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the CRPNA and/or CRNA required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. If you have not practiced as a RN/RPN within the last 5 years, completion of the following free courses are also required: 1) CRNA Medication Administration Certificate - https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F 2) NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification - https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience in mental health or related settings required. Ability to provide leadership and function as a team member. Ability to work independently. Ability to work in a fast paced and, at times, highly stressful environment. Strong assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to patient changes in status. Strong communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to meet varying needs. Good organizational and conflict resolution skills required. Excellent time management skills. Proven dependability. Ability to be objective in decision making. Ability to be proactive with independent learning needs and up to date with current competencies. Minimum of 1 year working in an acute mental health setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

I.V. certification and Alaris pump training preferred. Current Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training preferred. Charge nurse experience preferred. Working knowledge in addictions preferred.
