Your Opportunity:
The Unit Manager is responsible for the day-to-day unit operation including direct supervision of unit staff. This role interacts with physicians, nursing staff, other unit staff, and other departments and interdisciplinary team members on a daily basis and provides clinical support to patient/resident care by exception only. The position facilitates and fosters interdisciplinary participation in patient/resident care activities and coaches, mentors, motivates and empowers clinical staff. The Unit Manager creates a climate of interdepartmental respect and collaboration, and adheres and models the Covenant Health mission, vision and values. Description:
The Resident Care Manager acts as a resource to staff regarding issues on the unit, supports unit and/or organizational change by raising awareness through communication, helping staff to cope with and understand changes that may impact them, and leads performance issue discussion with unit staff and initiates disciplinary process when required. Has initial discussions with staff member and escalates complex issues to program manager as required. RCM performs direct supervisory role for areas of responsibility and conducts staff performance appraisals annually. The manager will champion and actively participate in improvement initiatives at the unit level, including leading an initiative and effectively responds to concerns that can be resolved without escalation. Promotes an environment that maximizes resident’s dignity, independent, privacy, freedom of choice and decision making. Models and promotes collaborative interdisciplinary team functioning in the planning and delivery of resident focused, holistic care. Encourages client involvement in community programs where such programs are suitable to client needs. Coordinates community services as appropriate. Provides input into preadmission, admission and on-going orientation plan for patients/residents and their families. Participates in the preadmission assessment/referral intake and selection of appropriate residents or patients according to their needs and the ability of the organization to meet these needs. Ensures assessment, planning and evaluation of patient/resident care occurs as per program guidelines. Performs all RAI/MDS assessment at resident’s admission and regularly as required. Monitors acuity level of resident or patient population. This position is non-unionized.

Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience in continuing care setting. Exhibits strong clinical knowledge and skill in seniors care (Geriatrics, Continuing Care, Assisted Living, Designated Assisted Living, Long Term Care) or relevant specialty. Knowledge of available community supports and programs.
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduate of a recognized Registered Nursing program required. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BScN) recommended. Current registration from the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (C.A.R.N.A.) required. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation B.L.S. Certification (Level C) Health Care Provider required.
