Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Senior Advisor is a key member of a team providing leadership, advice and support to the organization’s integrated communications and community engagement efforts. Travel is required, and may include the use of a personal vehicle. A standard driver’s abstract may also be required for use of corporate lease vehicles.

Description:

The Senior Advisor is accountable for ongoing advising, consultation and leadership in the areas of; strategic thinking, communications planning, project management, communications advising, crisis communications, issues management, media relations, social media and internal communications. This position conducts ongoing consultation, project and process management, planning, implementation and evaluation to support the Covenant mission and Strategic Plan. This position supports the development, design and implementation of an integrated program of external and internal communications services. The Senior Advisor is responsible for maintaining standards for brand voice in writing, editing through all communications vehicles (online, print, social media, etc.). The Senior Advisor will provide communications leadership, advice and support to senior leaders on communications issues and opportunities, and acts as a subject matter expert on key projects and initiatives. The Senior Advisor develops and leads corporate initiatives within communications to advance the organization’s strategic plans and, specifically, develops communications strategies and tactics to demonstrate accountability to internal and external stakeholders (staff, physicians, volunteers, funders, media, government, community, etc.). The Senior Advisor is responsible for providing leadership and support to the communications team. The position establishes and maintains positive working relationships with internal and external key communications stakeholders – internal and external – including Covenant leadership/staff, media, government partners, community partners, etc. The position is responsible for ensuring communications projects and products are carried out in a manner consistent with Covenant Health’s Mission, Values and Ethical Guidelines.

Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, arts, social sciences, business administration, or related field. Combination of education and work experience would be considered.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Five to seven years’ experience planning, implementing, and evaluating communications strategies and advising senior leaders or managing significant projects and initiatives required. Experience in issues management, crisis communications and media relations responding to issues which may affect the image and reputation of an organization required. Extensive experience in conceptualizing, researching, developing, and creating communications materials including communications strategies and tactics including; communication plans, tactical plans, news articles, social media plans/posts, digital/web-based communications (including photography) and other written communications required. Proven project management skills, including the ability to manage timelines, budgets, team dynamics and multiple stakeholders required. Experience in project management required. Proven excellence as a writer for a variety of platforms required. Proven ability to manage team and services processes and quality assurance required. Internal communications expertise and proficiency in working with electronic and digital communications vehicles required. Digital and print publication experience required. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, including potential competitive and conflicting priorities and time pressures required. Ability to thrive in a complex, fast-paced, change affected environment required.


Preferred Qualifications:

Healthcare and/or public sector environment experience an asset. Experience with community engagement an asset. Demonstrated issues management, crisis communications and media relations skills. Demonstrated understanding of communications best practices and emerging trends and application in communications and in communications technology.
