The treatments and services provided are guided by evidence-based research and best practices. This 150-bed facility has 120 acute care beds divided into 4 units that are allocated for acute geriatric psychiatry patients, and a 30-bed geriatric psychiatry transitional unit. Villa Caritas is a designated facility. Patients are admitted on a voluntary basis or involuntarily under the Mental Health Act. The Social Worker II is a member of an interdisciplinary team providing patient focused, culturally appropriate, and recovery-oriented care for adults (generally seniors) experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms and/or moderate to severe behavioral difficulties which significantly compromises their physical and/or mental well-being. The SWII works intensely with these patients, their families and/or communities and secondary decision makers in addressing psychosocial needs to ensure continuity of care and a seamless transition for the patient back into the community to prevent or minimize the need for future admissions.
