This position reports to the Manager, Protective Services and is responsible for the implementation of security plans and practices for designated sites and the management of all protection personnel on site. As the leader of Protective Services on site the Supervisor works with all leaders and departments in the facilities and contributes to a wide array of committees. The Supervisor develops and maintains internal and external relationships, implements site processes, standards, policies, procedures and practices for the Protective Services department and supervises Peace Officers. Our ideal candidate has good experience and knowledge of legal issues and precedence, protection and investigation techniques and can leverage this to conduct and manage investigations that may have significant financial, risk or reputation impact on the organization in a complex environment. Description:

In alignment with Covenant Health’s Mission, Vision, and Values, the Supervisor, Protective Services provides leadership and operational oversight for Protective Services across assigned sites. Reporting to the Manager, Protective Services, the Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, professional, and compliant delivery of protective services that safeguard patients, residents, staff, physicians, volunteers, visitors, and organizational assets. As the site lead for Protective Services, the Supervisor provides direction, coaching, and support to Peace Officers and related personnel, ensuring operational readiness, service excellence, and compliance with applicable legislation, policies, and professional standards. The role oversees staffing, service delivery, investigations, incident management, security assessments, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Supervisor works collaboratively with site leadership, internal departments, law enforcement, emergency services, external agencies, and community partners to address safety and security priorities and support integrated service delivery. Through effective leadership, risk management, operational analysis, and stakeholder engagement, the Supervisor strengthens Protective Services capabilities, reduces organizational risk, and promotes a safe, secure, respectful, and supportive healthcare environment. Eligibility for appointment as a Community Peace Officer Level 1 is required. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years post-secondary education related to Policing/Security or equivalent experience. Minimum 5 years’ law enforcement or directly related experience. 3-5 years’ experience in supervision or personnel management. Experience in investigations, evidence handling and court proceedings Combination of education and experience may be considered. The successful candidate must be eligible for appointment as a Community Peace Officer Level 1 and have demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, including employee development, performance management, coaching, mentoring, employee relations, conflict resolution, and team engagement, preferably within a unionized environment. A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence is required, along with the ability to travel between assigned sites and external partner locations as needed. The successful candidate must also have the ability and willingness to provide 24/7 on-call support for operational, emergency, and organizational matters. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and related information management systems is required. The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications, clearances, training, and other requirements applicable to the position.


Additional Required Qualifications:

The position requires strong knowledge of Protective Services operations, investigations, risk management, emergency management, workplace violence prevention, Occupational Health and Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, labour relations, collective agreements, and applicable legislation relevant to the role. Experience leading investigations and reviewing operational reports, audits, performance metrics, and other documentation to support compliance, operational effectiveness, and continuous improvement is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively manage human, financial, and physical resources while developing collaborative, high-performing teams and fostering a positive, accountable, and service-oriented culture. Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and relationship-management skills are essential, including the ability to influence, build partnerships, and work effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders. The role requires demonstrated ability to lead change, support continuous improvement initiatives, assess operational risks, prioritize competing demands, and exercise sound judgment in complex and dynamic environments. Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills are required, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, attention to detail, confidentiality, and professionalism.


Preferred Qualifications:

Professional designation such as ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or equivalent is considered an asset. Experience in policy and process development. Experience with Perspective software and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design training.
