Description:

The Site Supervisor, Health Information Management (HIM), performs a leadership role in Health Information Management and reports directly to the Manager, Health Information Management. This position is responsible and accountable for providing direct supervision, team leadership, and organization over multiple service units of Health Information Management namely, Patient Information Desk (wayfinding), Patient Registration, Health Information/Records Management, Access and Disclosure, Offsite Storage, Scanning/Quality Assurance of Records. The Site Supervisor oversees an operation with volume demands and some unpredictability working with patients and public. Off hours contact to support staff is required. The incumbent works without an on-site Manager and is responsible for HIM services at the Bonnyville Health Centre. This position strives at all times to provide service consistent with the need for quality healthcare information in keeping with Covenant Health Mission, Vision and Values. The Supervisor ensures excellent customer service is provided by the team to patients, public and staff. The position is responsible and accountable for making unit-level decisions and has direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement and consistency of departmental and provincial HIM goals and standards. The Site Supervisor must have specialized knowledge and understanding of the Health Information Act, Medical Staff By-laws and Rules, Vital Statistics Birth/Death Registration and Provincial Registration Standards and Practice. Ensures appropriate access to patient information/records for patient care, teaching, research, administrative and legal purposes. The incumbent ensures the integrity and accuracy of the Patient Registration System (ATD), computerized Chart Management system.

Required Qualifications:

Certificate in Health Information Management required. Additional supervisory/management courses required. Bachelor degree in HIM or other healthcare related business degree would be desirable. Minimum of five years related experience in all aspects and operation of a hospital HIM Department with demonstrated supervisory/management leadership, communication and interpersonal relationship skills. Member in good standing, Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA). Demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development required. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. This position could oversee multiple sites and travel is required. The location of this position is in Bonnyville, Alberta.
