This role is in integral part of the team providing support and education to our patients and families.

Description:

The Undergraduate Nursing Employee UNE STEEP is an unregulated member of the nursing team participating in the Student Transition and Extended Exposure Program (STEEP), an internship style role designed to support the transition from nursing student to graduate nurse. The STEEP functions within the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide patient-centered care under the guidance, supervision, and direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or other regulated healthcare professional. This role provides consistent clinical placement, enhanced mentorship, and extended exposure within a designated unit to build clinical competence and readiness for transition to a Graduate Nurse position. As part of the program, students complete structured UNE hours from April to September, followed by their STEEP final practicum from September to December or January to April within the same clinical area to support continuity of learning and practice. This position is covered under the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Must be currently enrolled in an approved Alberta Bachelor of Nursing (RN) program. Must be entering or enrolled in the 4th year of RN studies. Must have a current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification. Must meet all clinical placement requirements (e.g., immunizations, mask fit, police information check, etc.). Must be eligible to complete a preceptor clinical placement within a designated unit.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, dated within six (6) months prior to start date, is required. Current enrollment in an approved Baccalaureate Nursing program, entering or in 4th year, and meeting all clinical requirements set by your post-secondary institution. Preferred Qualifications:

Interest in a long-term nursing career in Postpartum at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital. UNE experience in postpartum preferred.
