Your Opportunity:

The Nursing Student Transition and Extended Exposure Program (STEEP) offers an exciting and supportive internship-like opportunity for nursing students either entering, or in the final year of study, with their final practicum beginning in September. The program is designed to provide safe, stable, and supported clinical transitions, allowing you to develop deeper knowledge, skills, and experience in high-intensity specialty areas. With consistent professional mentorship and clinical oversight, STEEP helps bridge the gap between student and new graduate nurse, giving you the chance to gain valuable hands-on experience while building foundational confidence and competence. As a STEEP participant, you will begin by completing paid hours as a UNE over the summer. This will be followed by an unpaid 4th year practicum on the same unit starting in September. Leadership placement will be offered in another area to provide exposure to different aspects of nursing outside of your STEEP unit, with the goal of transitioning into a Graduate Nurse position within the STEEP unit. This pathway offers flexible casual hour requirements, so full-time availability is not required. Additionally, there is an emphasis on recruiting candidates who are interested in staying in the area long-term, providing you with the opportunity to build a future within the unit. Throughout the program, you will receive consistent mentorship from preceptors, with faculty and unit leadership offering ongoing support to guide you through the clinical and professional development stages. If you are looking to gain meaningful clinical experience, build your confidence as a new graduate, and are interested in committing to a long-term nursing career in Women’s Health at the Misericordia Hospital, STEEP offers the perfect opportunity to launch your nursing career.
