Your Opportunity:

This position reports to the Unit Manager (or designate) and works under the direction of nursing staff, physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure that all clerical needs of the unit are taken care of. The Unit Clerk is the first point of contact for the unit and handles, redirects or relays pertinent information to the healthcare team, patients and the public. The role includes checking patients in for surgery, preparing patient charts and related unit records, answering the phones and assisting visitors and staff, and other duties as assigned. The Unit Clerk maintains the units’ inventory of stationary and supplies and ensures that unit records are accurate, complete, up to date and accessible to the team. The Unit Clerk performs a variety of duties in support of the health care team including processing physician orders and liaising with other departments.

Required Qualifications:

A certificate from a recognized Unit Clerk training program including medical terminology is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload effectively. Must remain efficient while dealing with numerous interruptions. Committed to accuracy and attention to detail. Proficient in Medical Terminology.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) years related experience preferred. Strong computer skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office, VAX and E-Clinician preferred.
