Your Opportunity:

The Unit Manager for Pharmacy Services is responsible for the daily operations relating to distribution activities at the Misericoridia and Villa Caritas Community Hospitals. The Misericordia Community Hospital provides a full range of acute care services to the growing West Edmonton community, following a deep-rooted tradition of healing the body, enriching the mind and nurturing the soul. With 312 acute care beds, the hospital provides a wide range of services that include a 24-hour emergency department, child health clinic, general internal medicine, cardiac care, NICU, obstetrics, orthopedics, surgery, a comprehensive breast program and the world-renowned Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine. Villa Caritas in a 150-bed inpatient geriatric psychiatric care centre, specializing in compassionate care for seniors with complex mental health and medical needs. Involving patients in all aspects of treatment and recovery, our interdisciplinary teams empower patients to reach their maximum rehabilitation and capabilities. When patients are ready to move to the next phase in their journey, Villa Caritas teams work to ensure appropriate supports are in place to help them reintegrate into the community. Description:

Reporting to the Program Manager Pharmacy Services, the Unit Manager, is responsible for the direct supervision of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants at assigned site(s). A key focus of this role involves the coordination and organization of assigned human, financial and material resources to ensure effective program delivery and the identification and resolution of issues that impact service to the site(s). The Unit Manager is the first line of contact for assigned staff to resolve problems related to staffing or other services concerns. The Unit Manager encourages a positive relationship between staff in keeping with the Covenant Health mission, vision and values, and demonstrates leadership skills that will focus and support a dynamic team.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a recognized Pharmacy Technician Program. Registered with Alberta College of Pharmacists as a Pharmacy Technician.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years recent experience in a hospital pharmacy required. Must have at least three years' experience providing mentoring or leadership to Pharmacy staff. Able to integrate and apply technical knowledge in the day to day operation of the department. Must be able to maintain privacy, dignity, confidentiality and morale of all concerned. Demonstrated optimism and enthusiasm about the Pharmacy program with commitment to continuous quality improvement. Demonstrated customer service approach to pharmacy staff and site programs. Strong computer skills utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in a Windows environment required.


Preferred Qualifications:

Direct supervisory experience preferred. Demonstrated managerial competencies that include excellent communication skills, leadership qualities, problem solving, conflict resolution, analytical thinking, interpersonal and group management skills, change management, organization and project management skills. Experience in EPIC is an asset.
