Your Opportunity:
The new $85 million Misericordia emergency department (ED) opened in November 2023. Reporting to the program manager, the unit manager is accountable for the effective management of human, financial and physical resources in the department. The unit manager provides clinical leadership to ensure quality care within the department following unit policies, procedures and goals. The unit manager collaborates with site partners to facilitate patient flow, develops and recommends operational plans and supports/leads quality improvement initiatives. The unit manager is responsible for recruitment and staffing of the unit and monitors for compliance with budgetary guidelines.
Description:
The unit manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the MCH Emergency Department including direct supervision of frontline staff. The unit manager interacts with physicians, nurses, other unit staff and departments on a daily basis. The unit manager facilitates and fosters interdisciplinary participation in patient care. The unit manager coaches, mentors, motivates and empowers clinical staff and provides clinical support to patient/resident care by exception only. The unit manager creates a climate of interdepartmental respect and collaboration and models the Covenant Health mission, vision and values. This position is non-unionized.

Baccalaureate of Nursing degree (BScN) required. Current registration (in good standing) with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider certification required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Charge nurse experience required. Proficient in a computerized environment including MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:Emergency Department experience preferred. Previous management/leadership experience preferred. Leadership training preferred.
