Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity for a leader to join the Misericordia Hospital Addictions and Mental Health Portfolio. This position oversees the Emergency Mental Health Unit and the Perinatal Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Unit Manager will work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to provide leadership, foster positive team culture, and lead clinical care. As Unit Manager you will be at the forefront of developing patient service delivery strategies, an instrumental part of change management, and a leader in the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality improvement. The position works in partnership with Physicians and other leaders to maintain and/or enhance program goals and objectives, while engaging all disciplines to address and resolve unit specific issues and concerns. As a Unit Manager, you are responsible for the day-to-day unit operations including direct supervision of staff. This role interacts with interdisciplinary teams within Covenant Health sites and with other community stakeholders. The Unit Manager collaborates within the Misericordia Hospital by participating in working groups and committees. Description:

This leadership role oversees an 8-bed Emergency Mental Health Unit embedded within the Misericordia Emergency Department. The Unit Manager works collaboratively with the ED and Zone Mental Health Bed Management to ensure high-quality patient care, unit safety, and efficient patient flow through a busy emergency setting. In addition, this leader will have the exciting opportunity to oversee the newly launched Perinatal Outpatient Mental Health Clinic —the only outpatient clinic in the Edmonton Zone dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges during the perinatal period. This evolving program is designed to meet the unique needs of patients through a barrier-free, patient-centered approach delivered by a skilled interdisciplinary team. Lastly, this leader will oversee the Mental Health Psychology Department, a passionate and collaborative team that provides cognitive and psychological assessments for both inpatient and outpatient populations. Their work plays a vital role in supporting diagnostic clarity and informing individualized care plans across the continuum of mental health services. The ideal candidate brings a robust clinical foundation in emergency and/or acute care nursing, paired with specialized experience in mental health and addictions, including perinatal mental health. They possess diagnostic acumen, knowledge of evidence-based treatment modalities, and a deep understanding of best practices across both emergency psychiatric care and perinatal mental health. This role requires a dynamic and compassionate leader who can foster a supportive team environment, champion continuous improvement, and advocate for safe, equitable, and responsive care in both high-pressure and outpatient settings.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse Program and currently registered with a regulatory body (CRNA or CRPNA). Strong leadership skills and ability to provide instruction and direction related to best practice in Addiction and Mental Health, Emergency care and Perinatal Mental Health. Must be able to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and support with conflict resolution. Expertise in effective change management, quality improvement, and a commitment to safe, effective, and ethical patient care and work practices is a key to success in this job. 2 Years Emergency Department experience and or 2 years acute care nursing experience. 2 years of recent experience working in a mental health community or outpatient setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal skills & ability to work independently. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in both hospital and community settings. Excellent attendance record and personal suitability must be demonstrated through employment record and references. 3 years leadership experience in a mental health setting, Emergency Department or Women’s health setting. Experience nursing in women's health. Clinical experience in an Emergency Mental Health unit. Connect Care experience.
