Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Program Manager of Operative Services, the Unit Manager is primarily accountable for the day-to-day management of PACU (Post Anesthetic Care Unit), OR Booking Office, and Pre-Admission Clinic, which includes direct supervision of unit staff. This role interacts with physicians, nursing staff, other unit staff, and other departments and interdisciplinary team members on a daily basis and provides clinical support to patient/resident care by exception only. The position facilitates and fosters interdisciplinary participation in patient/resident care activities and coaches, mentors, motivates and empowers clinical staff. The Unit Manager creates a climate of interdepartmental respect and collaboration, and adheres and models the Covenant Health mission, vision and values. The responsibilities of this position are focused around four critical aspects of care and service: People and teams, Access and flow, Quality and safety, Efficiency and resources. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BScN) required. Current registration from the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation B.L.S. Certification (Level C) Health Care Provider required. Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience in operating room or critical care setting. Charge nurse experience required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Comfortable working and communicating with physicians (surgeons), nurses, clerical and executives (vice presidents, executive directors, directors), delivering difficult messages and working toward collaborative resolutions. Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to work in a fast paced, highly stressful environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to provide leadership and function as a team member. Excellent organizational and conflict resolution skills. Ability to be objective in decision making. Commitment to safe, effective and ethical patient care and work practices. Commitment to Covenant Health Mission and Values. Proven dependability and accountability

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate degree in business administration, adult education, health care profession, or related field preferred. Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory/management experience preferred.
